Lab alumna, Dr. Xiaoqing Zhang awarded new grant to foster international collaboration with the Santerre group

Autologous vascularized engineered tissues are a powerful therapeutic tool with a broad range of applications.

A new collaborative grant between the Santerre research group supported by the Translational Biology and Engineering Program, and Dr. Xiaoqing Zhang, a faculty member at the Binzhou Medical University, will aim to explore the use of such tissues for critical research in the area of women’s health. More specifically, they will spend the next five years investigating the use of tissue-engineered grafts to support healing and regeneration of the endometrium for patients suffering from intrauterine adhesions.

Being an alumna of the Santerre lab, Dr. Zhang has extensively researched this tissue engineering platform and contributed a great deal to its development in the seminal years of exploration. Her first-hand discoveries and the biomaterial’s unique composition and architecture could help support this underserved area of research. More information on this novel project can be found here.
